Scripture Prayer

Ask the Holy Spirit to speak to you through the scriptures. You are seeking a union with the Holy Spirit through scripture.

Read through the scriptures thoughtfully and prayerfully until a verse speaks to you in a relevant and personal way.

Concentrate on the verse that you find meaningful. Reread the passage slowly several times. There may be a word or phrase that speaks directly to you. Meditate on that word or phrase. This should continue as long as you feel inclined.

Be open to the promptings of the Holy Spirit. Pray about the verse. You may be led to prayers of praise, thanksgiving, gratitude, intercession or direction. Do not plan your prayers but be lead by the Holy Spirit.

Should the verse identify a need for change in your life, ask the Holy Spirit for help in making that change.
